Microbial transformation of (-)-alpha-bisabolol by Glomerella cingulat
a has been investigated. (-)-alpha-Bisabolol was initially transformed
to (1S,3R,4R,7S)-3,4-dihydroxy-alpha-bisabolol and bisabolol oxide B.
(1S,3R,4R,7S)-3,4-Dihydroxy-alpha-bisabolol was further transformed t
o (1S,3R,4R,7S,10S)-3,4-dihydroxy-bisabolo oxide B. Bisabolol oxide B
was also further transformed to (1S,3R,4R,7S,10S)- and (1S,3S,4S,7S,10
S)-3,4-dihydroxy-bisabolo oxide B. The structures of the metabolic pro
ducts were determined by spectroscopic methods. Metabolic pathways of
the biotransformation of (-)-alpha-bisabolol by G. cingulata are also
discussed.
