C. Fricke et al., IDENTIFICATION OF (-BETA-CARYOPHYLLENE IN ESSENTIAL OILS OF LIVERWORTS BY ENANTIOSELECTIVE GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHY()), Phytochemistry, 39(5), 1995, pp. 1119-1121
A combination of capillary columns with conventional and chiral statio
nary phases in a double-oven gas chromatograph (2D-GC) was employed to
investigate the enantiomeric composition of beta-caryophyllene in sev
eral liverworts. By comparison with a synthetic standard of racemic be
ta-caryophyllene, enantioselective gas chromatography using akis(2,6-d
i-0-methyl-3-0-pentyl)-beta-cyclodextrin as a chiral stationary phase
revealed the presence of up to 85% (+)-beta-caryophyllene in some spec
imens of Pellia endiviifolia and P. epiphylla.
