J. Watanabe et al., ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF ALPHA-GLUCOSIDASE INHIBITORS FROM TOCHU-CHA (EUCOMMIA ULMOIDES), Bioscience, biotechnology, and biochemistry, 61(1), 1997, pp. 177-178
alpha-Glucosidase inhibitory activity was found in aqueous methanol ex
tracts of tochu-cha, dried leaves of Eucommia ulmoides (Eutommiaceae).
Five active principles against yeast enzyme were isolated and charact
erized. Among them, quercetin (1, K-i: 8.5 x 10(-6) hi) was considered
to contribute mostly to the activity of the tochu leaves. In regard t
o an animal alpha-glucosidase, rat intestinal sucrase activity was als
o inhibited by 1.
