A tip-type carbon dioxide gas-sensor probe with a heater element is se
t up by using the combination of a lithium ionic conductor (LiTi2(PO4)
(3)-+0.2Li(3)PO(4)) and oxide ionic conductors. Three types of oxide i
onic conductors, Bi2O3-Y2O3 (3:1), CeO2-Gd2O3 (8:1) and ZrO2-Ln(2)O(3)
(9:1) (Ln:Y, Sc) are used. The sensor output with the zirconia- or bi
smuth oxide-based conductor agrees well with the Nernst relation. The
tip-type probe can detect the CO2 concentration exactly for contents h
igher than 1000 ppm, even in an atmosphere containing up to 30 vol.% o
f water vapour.
