Scandium nitrate solvates Sc(NO3)(3) . qTBP (TBP is tributyl phosphate
, q = 3.15, 2.57, and 1.58) were synthesized, and their IR spectra wer
e measured. Model solutions of Sc(NO3)(3) . 3TBP in CCl4 containing ni
tric acid with Sc:HNO3 molar ratios 1:1 to 1:3 and 1:7 were prepared,
and their IR spectra were also measured. The spectra indicate formatio
n of complexes with formula Sc(NO3)(3) . mHNO(3) . 3TBP (m = 1-7) thro
ugh H-bonding of medium strength. In complexes with m = 1-2, nitric ac
id molecules are presumably bonded to oxygen atoms of nitrate groups c
oordinated to scandium. The R(O ... O) distance in these complexes was
estimated for the H-bond as 2.68 Angstrom.
