Abstract
Specimens within the (1 - x)BiO1.5 . xMO (M = Sr, Ca) rhombohedral bet a type solid solution fields have been synthesized and studied via TEM and powder XRD. Two distinct, fully three-dimensionally ordered, tric linic superstructure phases have been found for both the M = Sr and M = Ca systems. The first, S1, occurs for low x specimens whereas the se cond, S2, occurs for somewhat higher x specimens. In the case of the M = Sr system, a further incommensurately modulated (although somewhat disordered) superstructure phase was also found for x = 0.25. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
