Rc. Duty et al., REACTION OF THIOXANTHEN-9-ONE WITH THE SUPEROXIDE ANION IN AN AQUEOUSSYSTEM CONTAINING DODECYLTRIMETHYLAMMONIUM BROMIDE, Journal of chemical technology and biotechnology, 63(4), 1995, pp. 361-366
This research deals with the oxidation of thioxanthen-9-one with the s
uperoxide anion to the sulfoxide and to the sulfone. We were also inte
rested in determining whether the thioxanthen-9-one could be oxidized
further to carbon dioxide. The experiments revealed that no carbon dio
xide was formed from the oxidation of thioxanthen-9-one. However, it w
as found that carbon dioxide was formed from the anode reacting with t
he superoxide anion.
