The paper continues an investigation of the depth distribution of mome
ntum deposited in solids by ion bombardment, finite-threshold-energy e
ffects being discussed. It is shown that, for a wide set of system par
ameters, existing semianalytical techniques lead to a qualitatively in
correct description of momentum deposition, especially in the target s
urface region. The most important qualitative features of the deposite
d momentum distribution are considered, which cannot be ignored when f
inding solutions of the kinetic equation by analytically based methods
or interpreting numerical simulation data. Corresponding analytical a
nd numerical results are presented.
