Abstract
The charge density induced by a point charge immersed in an electron g as, in the presence of a magnetic field, is studied using linear respo nse theory, for a range of metallic densities and fields up to 4 x 10( 5) T. The response function, inclusive of an approximate field factor for exchange and correlation effects, is first presented in the curren t density functional theory formalism. Numerical methods are then desc ribed. Results for the embedding energy of the point charge and non-sp herical deformation of the charge density are reported. They are discu ssed in the perspective of building a statistical model of electronic structure in the presence of strong magnetic fields.
