Reaction of cis-[PtCl2(PMe(2)Ph)(2)] with the alkyne Bu(t)C(2)H and Et
(2)NH in the presence of solid CuCl (> 0.35 mol/mol Pt) leads to the f
ormation of colourless crystals of the compound trans-[{PtCu2Cl2(C(2)B
u(t))(2)(PMe(2)Ph)(2)}(n)]. 2n(MeCN) from acetonitrile solution for wh
ich the X-ray structure has been determined. The compound crystallises
in the triclinic space group P $($) over bar$$ 1 with a = 9.505(4), b
= 12.374(5), c = 15.970(2) Angstrom, alpha = 82.94(1), beta = 86.61(3
), gamma = 77.98(2)degrees, V = 1822(1) Angstrom(3), Z = 2 (formula wi
th n = 1). A linear polymeric structure is adopted which contains Pt(m
u-sigma,eta(2)-C2BUt)Cu and Cu(mu-Cl)(2)Cu linkages. Several modes of
alkyne-copper coordination have now been characterised with from one u
p to four alkyne groups coordinated to each copper atom.
