The National Health Service (NHS) has a series of objectives. To deter
mine whether these objectives are being achieved, data need to be coll
ected from which the necessary information can be derived. It is there
fore important to define the accepted ethical principles and objective
s of the NHS and assess whether the data and information we collect he
lp us to judge the performance of the NHS.
