Idealized, two dimensional combustion is considered in terms of irrota
tional, premixed gases upstream of a discontinuous flame which propaga
tes with a constant specified velocity and results in a specified decr
ease in density. The flame is anchored by a small flame-holder which i
s located on the lower wall and which plays an essential role in deter
mining the flow. With heat release the Bow downstream of the flame is
rotational and involves a stagnation region adjacent to the upper wall
. Numerical solutions are obtained for a range of propagation speeds d
own to roughly 0.70 of the velocity of the approaching stream and for
several density jumps including the zero heat release case. In this la
tter case the assumed influence of the flame holder results in flow no
nuniformity.
