EQUILIBRIUM IN THE N-2-NOX-HNO3-H2SO4-H2O HETEROGENEOUS SYSTEM

The equilibrium between nitrogen oxides and nitric and sulfuric acid m ixtures was studied over a wide range of temperature and liquid and ga seous phase compositions. It was shown that mixtures of nitric and sul furic acids would be appropriate to use in the preparation of nitrose gases for absorption because the potential of nitric acid as the oxidi zing agent for nitrogen monoxide is used in this case to a much greate r extent. Mathematical relationships for estimating the equilibrium co nditions and the solubility of the oxides in nitric and sulfuric acid solutions are given.
