Abstract
The standard molar enthalpies of solution of CeCl3(s) in HCl(aq) of co ncentration 0.234 mol . dm(-3), and LaCl3(s) in HCl(aq) of concentrati on 1.006 mol . dm(-3) have been measured. From these values the standa rd molar enthalpies of formation have been derived: Delta(f)H(m)(o)(Ce Cl3,s,298.15 K) = -(1060.5 +/- 0.5) kJ . mol(-1) and Delta(f)H(m)(o)(L aCl3,s,298.15 K) = - (1072.2 +/- 1.4) kJ . mol(-1). These results are compared with previous values from the literature. (C) 1995 Academic P ress Limited.
