This paper addresses the integration of instrumentation with interview
techniques in assessment strategies and crisis interventions when wor
king with suicidal adolescents. Referring to high correlations between
suicidal behavior and substance use, sexual orientation issues, moder
ate to severe depression, impulsivity, histories of prior attempts, su
icidal ideation, concomitant major psychiatric illnesses, low self-est
eem, problem-solving deficits, hopelessness, circular thinking, and ot
her cognitive distortions, this paper examines current research findin
gs supporting the roles of these variables in adolescent suicidal beha
vior.
