Two research issues are examined with a view to establishing the viabi
lity of a model for disseminating support for family caregivers of dep
endent elderly persons through psychoeducation in small group settings
. Continuing program effectiveness through multiple leadership is desc
ribed Secondly, the improved psychological well-being of 432 caregiver
participants is demonstrated in terms of their altered affect balance
and levels of state anxiety. The relevance of the model to community-
based age care is discussed. A coordinated and collaborative approach
to research and practice is advocated.
