Me. Lachman et al., ASSESSING MEMORY CONTROL BELIEFS - THE MEMORY CONTROLLABILITY INVENTORY, Neuropsychology, development, and cognition. Section B, Aging and cognition, 2(1), 1995, pp. 67-84
The Memory Controllability Inventory (MCI) was developed to assess bel
iefs about memory ability and the controllability of memory. The four
subscales are: Present Ability, Potential Improvement, Effort Utility,
and Inevitable Decrement. Factor structure, reliability and validity
were evaluated with three samples of adults. MCI scores were related t
o depression, problem-solving resourcefulness, and memory performance
in the expected directions. Possible uses of the MCI for research and
intervention are discussed.
