Aj. Martinezmurcia et al., EVALUATION OF THE AUTHENTICITY OF HALOARCHAEAL STRAINS BY RANDOM-AMPLIFIED POLYMORPHIC DNA, Letters in applied microbiology, 21(2), 1995, pp. 106-108
PCR analysis was performed on several archaeal species using 11 differ
ent 10-mer oligonucleotides of arbitrary sequence. Duplicates of the t
ype strain of Halococcus morrhuae (ATCC 17082 and CCM 537) showed mark
edly different RAPD profiles. Moreover, RAPD patterns from the type st
rain of Haloferax denitrificans ATCC 35960 and the strain ATCC 49116 d
eposited as Haloferax larsenii', were identical. This method represent
s an invaluable instrument in microbial screening and can clarify prob
lems with strain identities.
