Abstract
Determination of Mn-53 in meteorites by neutron activation analysis re quires a thermal neutron flux high enough to ensure adequate productio n of Mn-54 from Mn-53 with a sufficiently low fast neutron component t o minimize its production through fast neutron reactions. Thermal and fast neutron fluxes were mapped as a function of sample position withi n the NIST research reactor in order to determine the optimum position for irradiation of Mn-53.
