A man previously imprisoned for 11 years developed unremitting and tre
atment-resistant monosymptomatic hypochondriacal psychosis following a
period in excess of 12 months in solitary confinement. We are unaware
of any other reported incidences of this disorder arising in such cir
cumstances.
