Abstract
A rectangular cross-section discharge tube has been used to design and make a high-powered He-Ne laser. The output power of this kind of He- Ne laser can be raised by increasing the transverse size of the discha rge tube. A He-Ne laser tube of 20x4.5 mm(2) rectangular cross section and 1.7 m discharge length can give an output power of above 200 mW a t 0.6328 mu m. In this article, the design principle and the prelimina ry experimental results of this kind of He-Ne laser are briefly descri bed and discussed. (C) 1995 American Institute of Physics.
