Abstract
During the past two decades, classical swine fever also developed in a n unusual clinical picture several times. The cause of that is connect ed to the variance in the virulence of different viral strains, varyin g between the highly and moderately virulent and avirulent variants. A ccording to this, the course of the disease is can also be different. Based on data and experimental observations of the literature, the aut hor has differentiate an acute form, persistent infections (which can be chronic and late onset forms), as well as congenital infections (th e course off the disease in sows and embryos - besides of the virulenc e of viral strains - depends on the stage of pregnancy when the embryo s became infected): Thus, an immunopathologically heterogeneous pig po pulation can be an important source of infection from the point of vie w of epizootiology. Fetopathy caused by tile virus, epizootiological a nd pathological characteristics of the disease are important questions to be answered by further investigations all over the world.
