Abstract
Adverse effects of radiocontrast are relatively common, although usual ly of a mild nature. Life-threatening reactions can occur with even th e newer, lower osmolality, nonionic agents. The exact cause(s) of thes e reactions remains controversial. Types of adverse reactions, propose d causative mechanisms, related patient factors, and an approach to pr eventing and treating these reactions are reviewed.
