The crystal and molecular structures of (endo, anti)-5-ethylidene- eth
yl-6-(4-methoxyphenyl)-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene (C22H30O) (DA-1) and (
endo, anti)-1,3,4,5,6,7-hexamethyl-3-(4-methoxy- phenyl)-bicyclo[2.2.1
]hept-5-en-2-one (C20H26O2) (DA-2) have been resolved by X-ray diffrac
tion methods. DA-1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/a
with a = 13.189(1) Angstrom. b = 8.4285(2) Angstrom, c = 18.033(2) Ang
strom and beta = 109.155 degrees(5) Angstrom. Z = 4. DA-2 crystallizes
in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with a = 11.546(1) Angstrom, b =
16.750(1) Angstrom and c = 17.986 Angstrom. Z = 8. The structures wer
e solved by direct methods and refined by least-square procedures to f
inal R-values of 0.054 (DA-1) and 0.046 (DA-2) for 3244 (DA-1) and 178
4 (DA-2) unique observed reflections with I greater than or equal to 2
sigma(I).
