Abstract
We measure several hundred acoustic resonances in aluminum blocks. The statistical properties of these spectra are analyzed and compared to predictions form random matrix theory. A Poisson behavior is found for a rectangular block. the transition from Poisson to Gaussian orthogon al ensemble statistics is studied by measuring aluminum blocks manufac tured in the shape of three-dimensional Sinai billiards.
