Using the standard form of the matrix element, which contains the so-c
alled structural part as well as Inner Bremsstrahlung (IB) contributio
n, we calculate the structure functions for tau(-) --> nu(tau) + pi(-)
+gamma in terms of the vector and axial form factors of the transitio
n W --> pi(-) + gamma. We work out the Dalitz plot for all three possi
ble exclusive asymmetries and show that they are all non-zero. We disc
uss the consequences of the radiative zero in the IB amplitude. We sho
w that inclusive asymmetries in tau(-) --> nu(tau) + pi(-) + gamma can
be calculated analytically without knowledge of any concrete parametr
ization of the form factors nu(t) and alpha(t). The t-dependence of nu
(t) and alpha(t) is computed in the framework of the vector dominance
model using the conservation of vector current hypothesis for the nu(0
) and the existing experimental data for the ratio gamma = alpha(0)/nu
(0) from pi(-) --> e(-) + nu(e) + gamma decay. We demonstrate the sens
itivity of exclusive and inclusive asymmetries to the sign of the vect
or form factor. The predicted polarization effects are large in magnit
ude. (C) 1995 Academic Press, Inc.
