The R-matrix method has been applied to study the scattering of low-en
ergy electrons by molecular oxygen in the (2) Pi(g) scattering symmetr
y. The non-adiabatic approach has been adopted to obtain cross section
s corresponding to purely elastic scattering and excitation to the nu
= 1, 2 and 3 vibrational levels of the (3) Sigma(g)(-) ground state fo
r energies ranging from threshold to 1.0 eV. In addition, cross sectio
ns for excitation to the nu = 0 vibrational level of the (1) Delta(g)
excited state are presented for energies below 1.6 eV. A number of the
cross sections are dominated by narrow resonances corresponding to th
e vibrational levels of the (2) Pi(g) state of O-2(-). The positions a
nd widths of these resonances have been calculated and are found to be
in good agreement with the experiments of Field et al (1991).
