Abstract
The effect of an inert second phase on microstructural development and superconducting properties has been studied in order to improve the J (c) value under magnetic field. 100 Angstrom MgO particles were homoge neously mixed with the Bi-2223 phase using planetary ball milling and ultrasonification. The reaction sequence has been traced using X-ray d iffraction technique and microstructural development has been studied using SEM and EPMA. Homogeneous distribution of MgO grains in Bi-2223 phase led to the Increase in J(c) under magnetic field possibly due to the introduction of flux pinning sites.
