J. Yoo et al., EFFECT OF MGO PARTICLES ON MICROSTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERCONDUCTING PROPERTIES OF BI-2223 PHASE, IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 5(2), 1995, pp. 1479-1481
The effect of an inert second phase on microstructural development and
superconducting properties has been studied in order to improve the J
(c) value under magnetic field. 100 Angstrom MgO particles were homoge
neously mixed with the Bi-2223 phase using planetary ball milling and
ultrasonification. The reaction sequence has been traced using X-ray d
iffraction technique and microstructural development has been studied
using SEM and EPMA. Homogeneous distribution of MgO grains in Bi-2223
phase led to the Increase in J(c) under magnetic field possibly due to
the introduction of flux pinning sites.
