The hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene [N3P3Cl6] reacts with 2-hydroxypyrid
ine (HOC5H4N-2) and 4-hydroxypyridine (HOC5H4N-4) in acetone in the pr
esence of K2CO3, to give the hexasubstituted products N3P3(OC5H4N-2)(6
) (1) and N3P3(OC5H4N-4)(6) (2). The structure of both compounds has b
een determined by X-ray diffraction. The hexafunctionalized cyclotriph
osphazene N3P3(OC5H4N-4)(6) (2) is a better ligand than 1 and reacts w
ith fac-[Mn(OClO3)(CO)(3)(bipy)] in CH2Cl2 to give the hexacationic co
mplex [N3P3{(OC5H4N)Mn(CO)(3)(bipy)}(6)](ClO4)(6) (3).
