Abstract
The crystal structure of meso-commo-[3,3'-Fe{4-(Me(2)S)-1,2-C2B9H10}(2 )] meso-1, has been determined. The molecules of the complex pack to f orm layers coincident with the [-101] planes. Both intra- and inter-mo lecular BHdelta-... S-delta+ electrostatic interactions occur in the c rystal, with H ... S distances of 2.62 and 2.94 Angstrom, respectively . These interactions can be regarded as involving reversed-polarity hy drogen bonds. The intermolecular interactions form a two-dimensional n etwork within each of the molecular layers. The solid-state Raman spec trum of meso-1 is clearly distinguishable from that of its DD/LL-isome rs. The p-toluenesulfonate and bisulfate salts of the D/LL-commo-[3,3' -Fe{4-(Me(2)S)-1,2-C2B9H10}(2)](+) cation have been synthesised in goo d yield by the oxidation of DD/LL-commo-[3,3'-Fe{4-(Me(2)S)-1,2-C2B9H1 0}(2)] with p-benzoquinone.
