HYPOXIA OF TISSUE PERIPHERAL SHUNTING IN MASSIVE TRANSFUSION OF RED-CELLS AND WHOLE DONOR BLOOD

In response to correction of lethal and sublethal blood loss with exce ssive quantities of donor blood two types of cardiovascular adverse re actions may occur immediately after transfusion: either increased or d ecreased minute blood volume. This conclusion was made after 65 dog ex periments on hemodynamics and blood gases. Though the absolute value o f cardiac output changes differently in both cases there are signs of oxygen insufficiency.
