Da. Nechaev et al., THE RECOVERING OF THE LARGE-SCALE CIRCULA TION IN THE OPEN-OCEAN REGION BY VARIATIONAL TECHNIQUE, Okeanologia, 35(3), 1995, pp. 340-348
The variational ''optimal control'' method is used to determine large-
scale curculation in the open region of the North Atlantic. The Levitu
s hydrological information and Bunker atlas sea surface data are combi
ned with a priory statistics describing data errors and spatialtempora
l spectra of the circulation under consideration to get the most proba
ble oceanic state, satisfying geostrophic thermocline dynamics equatio
ns. The resulting solution and its covariance structure are discussed.
