K. Heim, A SPECIAL SUCKING-TUBE HOLDER FOR A LASER HANDPIECE FOR EFFECTIVE SMOKE EVACUATION, Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, 55(8), 1995, pp. 480-482
Treatment with a CO2 laser causes high smoke production, which leads t
o reduced view to the surgical field, to bad smell and has potential h
ealth hazards. Hitherto the problem of the external smoke evacuation h
ad not been solved sufficiently. Therefore a special sucking-tube hold
er for a laser handpiece is presented. The end of the sucking tube exa
ctly follows all movements of the handpiece and can be positioned clos
e to the source of smoke. Through a defined angle the smoke can be rem
oved quickly out of the way of the laser beam. According to the practi
cal experiences so far, this special equipment on a laser handpiece gu
arantees an effective evacuation of smoke, allows the reduction of ass
isting staff, reduces irritation through bad smell and additionally mi
nimizes the potential risks of smoke caused by an external CO2 laser a
pplication.
