The two independent molecules in the structure of 4,4'-dihydroxybenzop
henone, OC(C6H4OH)(2), are joined by O-H...O hydrogen bonds involving
only hydroxy groups into chains each consisting of a single type of mo
lecule, with O...O distances of 2.791(4) and 2.785 (4) Angstrom in the
two types of chain; the chains are then linked into sheets by hydroge
n bonds using carbonyl-O atoms as accepters [O...O 2.627(4) and 2.624(
4) Angstrom]. In the structure of 4,4'-thiodiphenol, S(C6H4OH2)(2), th
e molecules are linked into chains via centrosymmetric (OH)(2) motifs
[O...O 2.755(3) and 2.808(3) Angstrom] which are cross-linked by furth
er O-H...O hydrogen bonds [O...O 2.710(3) Angstrom] to give a three-di
mensional network.
