Abstract
Equations to be used for fitting data for the mean cosine of irradianc e and the diffuse attenuation coefficient are developed from radiative transfer theory. Approximate models that have only a few parameters a re developed and compared to those in the literature. A test is propos ed for the validity of the model used with asymptotic closure theory f or optical property estimation.
