Abstract
A quantitative calorimetric study on five coals of different ranks has been performed. Coal samples were rapidly pyrolyzed to 875 K with a 2 00 K/s heating rate and the enthalpy changes were measured. Over-all h eat effects of pyrolysis in the temperature range from 298 to 875 K we re found to be endothermic in nature.
