The crystal structure of beta-dicarbonyl, beta-ketoester and malonyl c
ompounds of the transition metals with a variety of bonding frameworks
have been reviewed, including the cyclometallation of acetone, tricar
bonyls, and tetracarbonyls. The 'metalla-beta-dicarbonyl' with the bri
dging acyl group recently explored in processes of the carbonyl methyl
enation reactions, and 'beta-oxoacyl' compounds or 'mu-malonyl' comple
xes are also described in this review, displaying keto-enol tautomeris
m and also peculiar regioselective alkylation. Some beta-dicarbonyl Rh
complexes functioning as a precursor of homogeneous active catalyst f
or hydrogenation, selective hydroformylation, and isomerization of ole
fin, and also preparation of diethyleneglycol from the synthesis gas a
re summarized.
