We verify theoretically the existence of dark and bright spatial solit
ons in photorefractive media with drift or photovoltaic mechanisms bas
ed on a wave coupling process. We show that spatial solitons in a phot
orefractive material with a drift dominant mechanism are independent o
f the intensity of light. We also show that spatial solitons in a phot
orefractive material with a photovoltaic mechanism are dependent on th
e intensity of the incident light.
