An innovative dynamic analysis procedure based on a finite element alg
orithm is developed to study the response of rigid airport pavements t
o a traversing aircraft and a temperature gradient along the depth. Th
e rigid pavement is modeled as a series of thin plate elements. The su
bgrade medium is idealized as a viscoelastic foundation. The traversin
g aircraft is modeled by spring and dashpot suspension systems. A para
metric study is performed to investigate the effects of various parame
ters on dynamic response of rigid airport pavements.
