Abstract
Boletus edulis Bull.: Fr sensu late, a popular edible mushroom in Euro pe, North America, and Asia, has been recorded for the first time in N ew Zealand. Fruiting occurred from late January until early April, und er Quercus spp., Fagus sylvatica, and Betula pendula. Several species of fungi found associated with B. edulis are listed. The microscopic f eatures of the mycorrhiza and fruiting bodies collected in Christchurc h, New Zealand are described, highlighting the development of hymenial elements on the stipe before they develop on the cap.
