Abstract
Computing provision is of major concern to synchrotron radiation resea rchers. An overview is presented of the computing facilities for synch rotron radiation work at the Synchrotron Radiation Source, Daresbury L aboratory. Data acquisition, reduction and analysis are seen as an int egrated activity essential for full utilization of beam time. We discu ss the evolution of data-acquisition systems from stand-alone systems of limited computing power, to a unified project computing village usi ng state-of-the-art equipment for combined-technique, high-data-rate e xperiments. A brief account of software packages for data reduction an d analysis is also given.
