PROPOSED REPORT - PLACING CONCRETE BY PUMPING METHODS

This report describes pumps for transporting and placing concrete. Rig id and flexible pipelines are discussed and couplings and other access ories described. Recommendations for proportioning pumpable concrete s uggest optimum gradation of aggregates; outline water; cement, and adm ixture requirements; and emphasize the need for evaluation of trial mi xes for pumpability. The importance of saturating lightweight aggregat es is stressed. Suggestions are given for layout of lines; for maintai ning uniform delivery rate, as well as uniform quality of concrete at the end of the line; and for cleaning out pipelines. This report does not cover shorcreting or pumping of nonstructural insulating or cellul ar concrete.
