Using TNBS and antibodies, we studied the protein topography at variou
s sites of the membranes, isolated from Rhodopseudomonas palustris cel
ls, strain AB, which were grown at 300 and 30000 lux. It was shown tha
t at the cytoplasmic side of the membrane, the marker was incorporated
mainly in the polypeptides of light harvesting complexes and H-subuni
ts of the reaction center independently on light intensity. At the per
iplasmic side of the membrane, the marker was found in the antenna pro
teins, in the subunits of the reaction center in lamellae in the cells
cultivated at low light intensity, and in the antenna proteins in lam
ellae in cells cultivated al high light intensity.
