Abstract
The gene responsible for hereditary hemochromatosis has been shown to be closely linked to the HLA-A and D6S105 loci on the short arm of chr omosome 6. Efforts at mapping the disease gene have been hindered, how ever, by a lack of informative recombinants in this region. We have id entified two recombinant individuals in a single affected family and h ave confirmed recombination by analysis of 16 polymorphic markers loca ted near HLA-A and D6S105. One of the recombinants provides evidence f or the location of the hemochromatosis gene telomeric to HLA-F.
