Abstract
Communication: The growth of single crystal beta-silicon nitride fiber s (see Figure) several millimeters long through the application of sel f-propagating high-temperature synthesis is demonstrated. Advantages i nclude the high purity of the fibers obtained, the fact that the fiber s are stable up to 2000 degrees C, and the low cost of the SHS process .
