Cd. Taylor et al., ON THE WIDE-BAND CW ILLUMINATION OF LARGE-SCALE SYSTEMS .1. THE ELLIPTICUS ILLUMINATOR, IEEE transactions on electromagnetic compatibility, 37(3), 1995, pp. 473-477
The Phillips Laboratory has recently designed and constructed a contin
uous wave illuminator for studying the responses of large-scale system
s subject to electromagnetic stresses. The illumination is developed b
y an electrically large, ferrite-loaded elliptical-loop configuration
that is oriented over the system being studied. One half of the loop i
s completed by its image in the ground plane. With the loop being driv
en from its apex, the electric and magnetic fields are substantially h
orizontal, corresponding to illumination from an overhead source. Data
are presented for the illumination field and the response of an aircr
aft, recorded at the Phillips Laboratory large electromagnetic system
level illuminator (LESLI) research facility.
