Abstract
Feed deprivation for 3 days progressively reduced body weight, feed an d water intake in Egyptian Baladi, exotic Anglo-Nubian and Anglo-Nubia n x Baladi crossbred goats during winter and summer. Rectal temperatur e, pulse rate and respiration rate markedly decreased during starvatio n. Haemoglobin, packed-cell volume and red blood cells values increase d and glucose concentration decreased during starvation, mainly in Ang lo-Nubian goats during summer. Response of white blood cell counts to starvation was variable between breeds and seasons. Results reflected a better adaptability of the native Baladi goats in the harsh conditio ns of newly reclaimed desert areas of Egypt.
