Scanning hysteresis behaviour at the gas-liquid transition of CO2 conf
ined in pores of average diameter similar to 40 Angstrom has been stud
ied by positronium annihilation spectroscopy. Closer inspection of pos
itron 2 gamma annihilation reveals a significant difference on increas
ing and decreasing the pressure through the transition, which is expla
ined in terms of a larger liquid-gas interface on pore filling. The re
sults favour the network model as the origin of the observed hysteresi
s.
