Abstract
The ground and excited singlet state dissociation constants of conjuga te acids of 4'-substituted 2-styrylquinolines have been determined spe ctrophotometrically in 50% (v/v) acetonitrile-water mixture at .30 deg rees C. The former have been derived from the absorption spectra and t he latter from absorption and fluorescence spectral data The measured dissociation constants are correlated with substituent constants. A go od correlation is obtained for the ground state dissociation constants with the Hammett sigma constants and for the excited state dissociati on constants with exalted sigma constants.
