The formation constants of a series of complexes of 5-cyano-1, ro-4-me
thyl-1-p-tolyl-6-oxopyridazine-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide (II) with s
ome bivalent metal ions viz. Cu(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Zn(II) and Co(II)
have been determined potentiometrically in 70% aq. ethanol. The compl
exes of Cr(III), Co(II), Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) have also been isol
ated and characterised by elemental analysis, thermogravimetry, IR, NM
R, electronic spectra, conductance and magnetic measurements. The liga
nd forms complexes of the type [MLCl] with Cu(II) and Mn(II) and of th
e type [ML(2)]. nH(2)O (where n=1, 2 and 4) with Co(II), Ni(II) and Cr
(III) respectively. L is found to be a uninegatively charged tridentat
e ligand. The ligand field parameters of the octahedral complexes have
been calculated.
